The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday granted bail to Kampli MLA J N Ganesh in a case registered against him for allegedly assaulting Vijayanagar MLA Anand Singh.

Justice B A Patil was hearing a petition filed by Ganesh who had moved the court seeking bail in a criminal case lodged against him for allegedly assaulting fellow Congress MLA from Vijayanagar Constituency Anand Singh.

Ganesh is facing an attempt to murder charge for assaulting Singh during a drunken brawl at the Eagleton Resort near Bidadi on January 20.

A special court for people's representatives had earlier rejected his bail plea following which he had moved the HC.

The court while allowing his bail plea stated in its order that once the special public prosecutor has submitted that a limited bail may be granted till charge sheet is filed that itself hoes to show that there is no seriousness in the alleged crime.

The court has further stated in its order that by imposing stringent conditions if the petitioner is ordered to be released on bail then it would meet the ends of justice.

The conditions imposed by the court include that the petitioner shall execute a personal bond of Rs 2 lakh with sureties for the like sum to the satisfaction of the jurisdictional trial court.

The petitioner shall not tamper with protection evidence directly or indirectly. He shall also not interfere with the investigation or threaten the prosecution witness by using his position.

He shall also not leave the country without prior permission of the trial court. Furthermore, he shall also not indulge in similar criminal activities till the trial is concluded.

The court has also directed him to mark his attendance once in 15 days before the police station nearest to his residence till the charge sheet is filed.
