JOIN US Moderate-to-heavy rain accompanied by thunder, lightning and strong wind lashed several parts of the district on Wednesday evening.
Shivamogga, Sagar, Bhadravathi, Shikaripur, Hosanagar, parts of Sorab and Thirthahalli received good spell of rain in the evening. The rain that started around 7 pm in Shivamogga city lasted for nearly an hour. Several roads in the city were waterlogged while tree branches fell on roads affecting movement of vehicles. Rain water gushed into houses in low-lying areas. Several parts of the district witnessed cloudy weather throughout the day signalling heavy rain at night.
Heavy rain accompanied with gusty winds brought down hundreds of trees in Uttara Kannada district on Tuesday night. In Yallapur, a huge tree branch fell on a marriage hall damaging the building. Similarly, the building of government higher primary school on Mundagod Road also suffered damages after tree branches fell on the classrooms.
Sudden showers threw normal life out of gear in Bhatkal. A huge branch of a tree fell on Rangikatti road affecting vehicular movement. However, there have been no reports of any causalities.
