Heavy rains lash many parts of Karnataka

Heavy rains, accompanied by hailstones and gusty winds, lashed parts of Bagalkot, Hassan, Mandya, Madikeri and Chikkamagaluru districts since Sunday night.

Though the rains brought some respite from sweltering heat, normal life was disrupted at many parts.

Thin metal roofs on sheds that housed flour mills and those on houses and huts were blown away by high intensity winds at Guledgudda and surrounding villages in Bagalkot district on Sunday night.

Heavy rains, accompanied by thunder, lightning and gusty winds lashed for about half an hour bringing down trees at many places. The rains also disrupted power supply, while drains overflew.

Holalakere town and surrounding villages in Chitradurga district witnessed rain, accompanied by thunder, hailstones for about 10 minutes on Monday afternoon.  

Belur and Holenarsipur towns in Hassan district received normal rainfall. Rain and hailstones lashed Belur and adjoining areas between 1.45 pm and 2.20 pm, while parts of Holenarasipur and Arkalgud taluks too received rainfall for more than 30 minutes from 5 pm.

Kikkeri in KR Pet taluk, Mandya district, also received rainfall.

Napoklu town in Madikeri received rain and hailstones. Balamuri, Parane, Kaikadu and Bethu recorded 25 mm rainfall. 

Beejuvalli, Handpost, Bidarahalli, Hosampura, Birgur and Bangal in Mudigere taluk in Chikkamagalur district too experienced good shower. 

Rain and thunder lashed Hemmakki, Nellimakki and Chanduvalli. Pepper laid on ground for drying was washed away in Baggasagodu and Phalguni.
