Karnataka Homeopathic Medical Association has demanded the state government to set up another government Homeopathy college in the state.

Association president Dr Veerabramhachary has said that there is an increase in the flow patients and students taking up homeopathy medicine and it will be ideal if the government decides on setting up another government college in North Karnataka.

He said they want the government to set up Homeopathic dispensaries at every hobli level, a 10-bed hospital at taluk level and a 25-bed hospital in every district of the state. Besides this, the association also wants the government to fill up the vacancies at the government college.

“At the moment, just about 60 Homeopathic dispensaries that are functioning in the state and the association people want people from the rural areas to get this form of medicines.

Homeopathic medicine works well for respiratory illness, skin problems and orthopaedic issues and we want people to access this medicine as an alternative,” Dr Veerabramhachary added.

Expressing concern over the deteriorating quality of education imparted to the students studying Homeopathy in private colleges, he said that no action has been taken so far despite informing the Homeopathy Council and the government.

He said that the students are not trained well in the clinical assessment of patients, which plays a crucial role in providing medication to the patients.

“Most of the private Homeopathic colleges are not functioning well, even if some authorities go on an inspection to these private colleges, the colleges somehow bribe the authorities. This is not good for the future of Homeopathy medicines in the state,” Dr Veerabramhachary added.

He said most of the students are deputed in primary health centres and end up practising Allopathy medicines which again is dangerous for the public health.

The association conducted its inaugural function and seminar recently. Governor Vajubhai Vala recalled how Homeopathy medicines have been an integral part of his family where the medicine has cured many ailments among their family members. Scientific sessions were also held at the event.
