Horatti tells Congress to be flexible in portfolio sharing

Last Updated 30 May 2018, 19:21 IST

Senior JD(S) leader and former minister Basavaraj Horatti on Wednesday asked Congress leaders not to be rigid in their demand for particular portfolios and make some sacrifices to provide an able and stable government.

“Though Congress gave unconditional support to the JD(S) to form the government, it is now putting conditions regarding portfolio sharing. Nobody in the JD(S), including me or former ministers G T Deve Gowda and A H Vishwanath, are demanding ministerial berth or any particular portfolio. Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy wanted Finance portfolio for smooth administration, and he would get that. To face the Opposition that has 104 MLAs, the government needs able ministers,” the senior MLC said.

Extending unconditional support first and then putting conditions is the habit of the Congress. Senior Congress leaders should resolve their issue at this crucial time, when the BJP is trying everything to get power. A stable government has to be given. Minor changes in the Cabinet can be made after a couple of years, Horatti said.
