Jatha to demand 33% quota for women in LS, Assemblies

The state Mahila Congress will organise a convention in Mangaluru on February 26, demanding 33% of seats in the Lok Sabha and the Legislative Assemblies for women.

Addressing the media in Bengaluru, Pushpa Amarnath, president of the party’s women’s wing, said that women leaders and workers from all districts of the state will be participating in the event.

She also said that there were several women leaders in the Congress who were aspiring to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

“Several women leaders have demanded a ticket to contest the polls. Monday is the last date to submit the applications. I will appeal to the party leadership to consider the applications seriously,” she added.

She said leaders like Mamatha Gatti from Mangaluru, Kantha Naik from Vijayapura, Veena Kashappanavar from Bagalkot, Geetha Khandre from Bidar, were hoping to contest the elections.
