Cricket: Cauvery, PES enter quarterfinals

Cauvery PU College defeated Vidyashrama PU College by eight wickets to enter the quarterfinals of Dr Praveen Memorial Mahajana Cup Cricket Tourney organised by SBRR Mahajana PU College, here on Wednesday.

Batting first, Vidyashrama team scored 50 runs losing all 10 wickets in 19 overs.
Arvind became the highest-scorer for Vidyashrama contributing 20 runs, while other batsmen failed to make an impact on bowlers of Cauvery team.

Cauvery PU College chased the target of 51 in just seven overs losing only two wickets. Ashwin Shetty scored 28 runs for Cauvery team.

Cauvery team’s Bhuvan secured four wickets, while Roshan and Thomson grabbed two wickets each.

PES win

In another quarterfinal match, PES Mandya won by 117 runs against Vijaya Vitthala. Batting first PES Mandya scored 221 runs in 30 overs losing eight wickets.

Naveen and Manjunath led the team by scoring 39 and 40 runs, while Kushal and Vishal supported them by contributing 30 and 28 runs respectively.

Chasing the mammoth total, Vijaya Vitthala team lost all their wickets for just 104 runs in 24.3 overs.

Shreyas and Deepak scored 25 and 22 runs respectively for the losing team. PES bowler Kaushik secured a haul of hat trick wickets while Abhilash took two wickets.
