Cricket: Krishna Das bowls Assam to a strong position

Assam’s medium-pacer Krishna Das bowled an inspiring spell to claim eight for 32 and helped his team gain a vital first innings lead of 74-runs against Baroda Cricket Association.

When the play of third day ended, Assam had garnered 178 runs, losing eight wickets in 81 overs, cementing their position in Group ‘C’ league fixture at Shafi Darashah All India tournament fixture played at the Gangothri Glades Grounds here on Thursday.

Resuming their overnight score of 126 for eight in 45.2 overs, Baroda were skittled out for 148 in 52.3 overs. Skipper and southpaw Aditya Wagmode waged a lone battle and scored a valuable 91 (158b, 15X4s). Krishna Das returned with excellent figures of 19.3-7-32-8 and was mainly responsible for the team securing the vital first innings lead.

SJCE Grounds

In nother Group ‘C’ tie at JSS-SJCE grounds, Andhra Cricket Association helped by centuries by opener D B Prasanth (123, 209b, 10X4s, 4X6s) and one-drop batsman Sri Ram (124, 236m, 220b, 6X4s, 3X6s), made a strong reply to the KSCA Secretary XI’s first innings score of 479 for nine declared, by scoring 369 for six in 100 overs, at close of play on the third day.

Resuming their overnight score of 12 for no loss in 3 overs, Andhra CA lost opener Srikanth (34, 5X4s, 1X6s) when the team score was 57. The second wicket pair of D B Prasanth and Sri Ram batted resolutely and scored runs at ease and were involved in a 213-run partnership for the second wicket which brought them back into the game.

After the fall of opener D B Prasanth, three wickets fell quickly and at close of play D Shivakumar (32 not out, 1X4, 1X6) and Ajay Kumar (1 not out) were at the crease. Leg-spinner Sinan Khader was the most successful bowler for KSCA Secretary’s XI by taking three for 98.

At JSS-SJCE Grounds: KSCA Secretary’s XI: 479 for nine declared in 119 overs vs Andhra CA (overnight 12 for no loss in 3 overs) 369 for six in 100 overs (D B Prasanth 123, Sri Ram 124, Srikanth 34, D Shivakumar 32 not out, Sinan Khader three for 98).
