Deputy Commissioner Harsh Gupta has appealed to the people not to use plastic flags on the Republic Day.

In a press release here, he said on January 26, schoolchildren and general public buy plastic flags and throw them after the function. This amounts to disrespecting the national tri-colour.

In the wake of this, traders should sell only the flags made out of cloth and sell them instead of plastic or paper flags.

The DC also requested the people to participate in large number a marathon organised on that day and also at the RD parade to be held at the Chamundi Vihar Stadium.

Mandatory

He said it was mandatory for the employees of all the government departments to compulsorily participate in national festivals including RD parade being in district and taluk level. The district administration has already sent the circular to heads of all the departments to take action against those who skip the celebrations.

Of late, the participation of government officials and employees in the government sponsored celebrations, is on the decline.

This had been taken seriously by the district administration. So, it was must for the employees and officials of the government, autonomous, boards and corporations to participate in the function.

Gupta said the RD celebrations would be held at Chamundi Vihar Stadium on January 26 at 9 am. Temporary offices would be opened at the stadium in order to make every employee to sign in the attendance register.  The heads of all departments should ensure that their employees participate in the function and sign the attendance register.

Full attendance

Every department has to depute a senior officer at the temporary office to keep an account of his/her department employees participating in full quorum. A nodal officer has been appointed to take attendance of employees and officials of Departments of Social Welfare, Backward Classes and Minorities and Indian Tourism Development Corporation.

After the function, the designated officials should submit the copy of the attendance to the office of deputy commissioner for recommending strict action against the absentee government employees.
