The CMC has stationed its staff at a convenient spot in every ward, while another team has been directed to go door-to-door to motivate people to pay up their taxes. The citizens can pay their property tax, water tax and all other taxes at this one-stop shop.
The civic agency has also made provisions for the defaulters to pay up the arrears in two or three installments. The move, while simplifying the procedure for paying taxes, is also expected to help those who approach middlemen for tax payment as they find the process cumbersome.
Venkatamma, a resident of Prasanthanagar, said: “Earlier, we used to pay twice the tax amount as the middlemen would convince us that one needs to bribe the officials even to pay taxes.”
Now, the CMC staff give the citizens a complete breakdown of all the taxes payable, “which is a huge relief,” said Muniyappa, a resident of Sir M V Layout.
CMC president M Prakash urged the citizens to pay up the taxes saying it was one of the major sources of income for the civic agency to undertake necessary projects in the region.
