State -level leaders are likely to announce the name of the candidate shortly. The term of the present BJP unit Chief M P Sunil Subramani concluded in November. However, as none could come to a consensus on the name of the candidate, the process got delayed.

According to highly placed sources, after holding consultation with MLA M P Appacchuranjan and Sangh Parivar leaders, the leaders will announce the name of the president.

District BJP Spokesperson M B Devaiah, Madikeri taluk BJP President Bellu Somaiah, MLA MP Appacchuranjan’s brother Suja Kushalappa, Yuva Morcha leaders Rabin Devaiah and Ravi Kalappa are also contenders for the post of BJP President. However, the present development says that there is direct fight between Shantheyanda Ravikushalappa and B D Manjunath.

The present District BJP President M P Sunil Subramani has already clarified that he will not contest for the post again. During the tenure of Subramanu, the party has won both the Assembly seats in Madikeri and Virajpet. However, the party lost in the MLC election. The party was lost in the Council election due to differences of opinion among the members within the party, added sources.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, former MLC S G Medappa said: “I am not in favour of anyone. I will abide by the decision of the party. I will not go to review the candidates. I will support the candidate selected by the party.”
