Addressing mediaperson here on Thursday senior divisional commercial manager Dr Anup S Dayanand said, many firsts are being introducing which are also going to be a permanent feature at the city railway station. Round the clock announcement will be made henceforth at the railway station for the passengers, which was not there earlier due to shortage of staff, he added.

A metal detector frame will be installed for frisking the passengers and their luggages will be checked and a close watch kept on the parcels, he said and added a dog squad will also be pressed into service.

Additional police force will be deployed to prevent any untoward incidents.
To facilitate people to buy tickets and avoid the rush at the railway stations, Janasadharan Ticket Booking Sewak (JTBS) have been opened at Kuvempunagar, Gokulam, Udayagiri, Vijayanagar and Chamundipuram, he said.

Emergency care
In collaboration with Vikram Hospital, an emergency care centre will be opened shortly, where facility for medical emergencies will be created. There will be two beds available and ambulance services will also be provided. These will be free of cost to the passengers. However, in case a patient requires more treatment, the decision will be left to the people to take them to any hospital of their choice including Railway Hospital, he said.

The IRCTC which is in charge of catering has also been asked to provide quality food. Regarding ticketless travel, Dayanand said, there is 10 per cent to 15 per cent of ticketless travel. The passengers have been warned not to travel ticketless as surprise checks will be conducted by the Railway staff.

Information counter
A tourism counter manned by KSTDC to provide information to tourists, IRCTC counters to provide all other information and money exchange counter run by Thomas Cook to facilitate foreigners to exchange money, will also be functioning, he said.

‘May I help,’ booth on platform one will also be opened where staff of not only RPF but also mechanical and electrical will be on call, he said.
