Earlier, Patil was lobbying hard for a ministerial berth or the Pradesh Congress Chief post. Though he was considered for the KPCC post, the top brass finally appointed Dinesh Gundu Rao as per the party's plan to promote youth leaders.
Even after that Patil was eying a cabinet berth in the JD(S)-Congress coalition government. However, last week Rahul Gandhi summoned him to Delhi and asked him to take the responsibility of campaign committee chairman.
Patil will have the responsibility of organising and coordinating the campaign along with coalition partner JD (S) as the country faces a general election in April-May next year.
