The Davangere Lok Sabha constituency may see a “surprise” candidate from the Shamanur family this time. The names of Prabha (wife of former minister S S Mallikarjun) and Congress district unit president H Manjappa are doing the rounds.
Mallikarjun tasted defeat in the Lok Sabha elections in 2004, 2009 and 2014 and has since remained away from party meetings and political activities. However, his name has been recommended this time too, though Malliarjun himself is not keen on entering the fray.
Meanwhile, the names of Mallikarjun’s wife Prabha, Shamanur Shivashankarappa, district Congress committee president H Manjappa and MLC H M Revanna are also doing the rounds.
