Deputy Commissioner Dr Bagadi Gautam asked the officials concerned to take up preventive measures against the spread of communicable diseases.

Chairing a meeting of communicable diseases prevention monitoring and coordination committee at the DC’s office hall in Chikkamagaluru on Tuesday, he said that the areas receiving the highest rainfall in each City Municipal Council, Town Panchayat and Gram Panchayat need be identified and checked for the outbreak of vector-borne diseases.

It is important to prevent the stagnation of water on roads and in drains. Guppy fingerlings should be released in water tanks and open wells, said the deputy commissioner.

He also instructed the officials to take precautions to ensure that mosquito breeding sites are destroyed at the waste management unit of the City Municipal Council in Indavara.

Chemicals should be sprinkled on stagnant water and leachate, he said and directed the officials to carry out regular inspections at the site.

Health Department official H K Manjunath said that four cases of dengue, four cases of brain fever and one Chikungunya case have been confirmed in the district.

District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr Ashwath Babu and district surgeon Dr Kumar Nayak were present.
