Yarava Yuva Okkoota honourary president P S Mutta urged the government to preserve the Yarava community before the community loses its existence.

He was addressing a gathering during a rally taken out by Virajpet taluk unit of Zilla Yarava Yuva Okkoota, from Kodava Samaja to Ponnampet taluk tahsildar office, on Monday, urging the government to fulfil the demands of the community.

Mutta said “The Yarava community has remained backward as the people of the community are deprived of education. The Yarava tribe, which is a unique tribe, is losing its existence, after facing various threats.”

He also urged the elected representatives and officials to take a good stand on Yarava community before it is too late. The community should be provided with basic facilities.

Programmes should be chalked out for the development of the youth from the community. The children from Yarava community should be provided with free education. Also, educated youth from the community should be directly recruited for government jobs, he added.

He also urged the government to form a district job selection authority and to release separate grants from Maharshi Valmiki Development Corporation, for the development of Yarava community.

Stating that many people in the community are facing hardships after losing jobs, owing to Covid-19 pandemic, he demanded compensation for such families from the
department of scheduled tribes.
