Meti makes the cut, Haris still in limbo

Despite the sex CD row involving him, former minister H Y Meti got the Congress ticket from Bagalkot segment. However, the candidature for Shantinagar seat, represented by N A Haris (whose son got embroiled in a restaurant assault case), has been kept pending.

Though several leaders were opposed to giving the ticket to Meti, it is learnt that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah prevailed upon the party top brass to give him the ticket.

"Since Meti is a strong candidate and his winning chances are high, the party decided to field him," said a senior leader from the party. The Congress is yet to decide on fielding Haris from Shantinagar.

Though a section of leaders from Bengaluru strongly opposed giving the ticket to him, a senior leader said they would take a call in a day or two. The party has sought the state leaders' view on the Shantinagar seat again, said the leader.
