The Congress MLA from Chikkaballapur K Sudhakar on Thursday night announced that he would resign as MLA on Friday.

Earlier in the day, Sudhakar had reportedly threatened the state Congress leaders that he will quit the party if his father Keshava Reddy is removed from the post of Chikkaballapur Zilla Panchayat president.

At a meeting attended by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and KPCC President G Parameshwara to discuss issues related to the party in Chikkaballapur district, many of the Congress leaders are learnt to have suggested that Reddy should be removed as the ZP president.

Even majority of the ZP members are said to be against Reddy’s continuation. At this juncture, Sudhakar threatened that he will be forced to leave the party if his father is removed from the post. Later, the first-time MLA tweeted: “I am resigning as Chikkaballapur MLA at 11 am tmrw. Indebted to people of Chikkaballapur, my party, KPCC president.”

‘Ambedkar photo’

The Congress on Thursday again raked up the Dr B R Ambedkar photo controversy against BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa.

Participating in a party event in Bengaluru, Parameshwara said Yeddyurappa seems to have developed a sudden liking for Dalits ahead of the Assembly polls.

“Today, Yeddyurappa eats his breakfast and lunch at houses of Dalits. But, he gets his food from hotels....Does he not remember that he got the photos of Ambedkar removed when he became chief minister in 2009. He can not fool people,” Parameshwara said.
