Food and Civil Supplies department officials, on Monday, raided six shops at the Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) market, Bandipalya on the Mysuru-Nanjangud Road in Mysuru and seized 3,600 quintals of pulses worth Rs 4.5 crore. A case has been booked against them under the Essential Commodities Act.

The raid assumes significance in the wake of the increase in prices of various dals.
In the raid that started at 4.30 pm and lasted till late night hours, the team of officials, led by senior Deputy Director for Food and Civil Supplies K Rameshwarappa, found that of the six shops, four shops had hoarded tur dal, urad dal and green gram totalling 3,600 quintals. The remaining two shops too had stored the grains, but in less quantity.
What led to the raid was that some of the traders had failed to give information on their stocks to the deputy commissioner’s office two days ago.

In Kalaburagi, Revenue authorities conducted raids on four dal mills on Tuesday. The officials checked the records regarding stocks held by the mills.

The raids were conducted on Tirumala Dal, Mahalakshmi Pulses, Raghavendra Dal Industry and Sangam Pulses.

Kalaburagi tahsildar K Basavalingappa said that Deputy Commissioner Vipul Bansal had directed them to conduct raids to verify the stock holdings and if anybody was found holding stocks in excess of that prescribed, the same should be seized. Rajashekhar Itagampalli of Raghavendra Dal Mill said that they had stocks much less than the prescribed limit and the officials had inspected the stocks and that they had cooperated with the officials.

Following various measures, retail price of tur dal has come down by Rs 30 per kg, to Rs 170  per kg in the last two days.
