The Jeevanbhima Nagar police, on Monday, arrested four persons who not only groped a woman but also assaulted her male colleague who stood up for her on Old Airport Road on April 13.

The arrested have been identified as Ajay, resident of Kodihalli, Mahesh, resident of Kodihali, Santosh Gouda, a resident of HSR Layout, and Naveen, a resident of Murugeshpalya.

Based on a Facebook post by the victim’s male colleague Arjun Nandkumar, Jeevanbhima Nagar police took up a case and investigated the incident and made the arrests.

Nandkumar had, in his post, narrated the incident that happened on a Friday afternoon when he and his two female colleagues were on their way back to office after lunch in Diamond District on Old Airport Road.

The accused were drunk and standing in front of a bar, while the victims were on their way back home from office.

"One of them, suddenly groped one of my colleagues and she responded by slapping him on the face. As she was North Indian, she could not understand the local language," Nandkumar said in his post.

When Nandkumar, who knows the local language, stepped forward to protect his women colleague, they started arguing.

"The other woman colleague who was with us, asked the man to apologise. Instead of apologizing, the four miscreants pulled at my T-shirt and tore it," Nandkumar stated in his post that went viral on social media the following day.

Nandkumar also said when one of the girls called the police control room, the police asked her to hold to the four men until they got there. But by the time, the police arrived, the four had already fled.

After the post went viral, the police traced Nandkumar from whom a complaint was taken and subsequent arrests were made based on the photographs of the men clicked by the women. The four accused were, on Monday, produced before a magistrate who remanded them to judicial custody.
