The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday granted bail to Kampli MLA J N Ganesh in a case registered against him for allegedly assaulting Vijayanagar MLA Anand Singh.

Ganesh is facing an attempt to murder charge for assaulting Singh during a drunken brawl at the Eagleton Resort near Bidadi on January 20.

A special court for people's representatives had earlier rejected his bail plea following which he had moved the high court.

The court, while allowing his bail plea, stated in its order that once the special public prosecutor has submitted that limited bail may be granted till charge sheet is filed, that itself goes to show that there was no seriousness in the alleged crime.

The court has ordered that the petitioner (Ganesh)shall execute a personal bond of Rs 2 lakh with sureties for the like sum to the satisfaction of the jurisdictional trial court. The other conditions of the bail include that the petitioner shall not tamper with prosecution evidence directly or indirectly. He shall also not interfere with the investigation or threaten the prosecution witness by using his position. Justice B A Patil heard the case.
