Six of a family killed in highway crash

Six people of a family, including two women and child, were killed on the spot after the car in which they were travelling collided with a lorry on NH-4 near Stavanidhi near here on Saturday evening.

Deceased are: Dilawar Khan Jamadar (60), Rehana Dilawar Jamadar (55), Mohsin Dilawar Jamadar (35), Afrin Mohsin Jamadar (34) Junaidkhan
Dilawar Jamadar (30) and Aayan Mohsin Jamadar (4), all residents of Murgud in
Kolhapur district of Maharashtra.

Lorry driver Oyyapuri (45) and cleaner Mohan Rajuvel (31), both from Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu, have been admitted to Kolhapur and Nippani hospitals respectively.

Jamadar family was going to Belagavi to attend a baby shower function of their relatives while the lorry was transporting tiles to Kolhapur from Bengaluru. The accident occurred when the driver of the lorry lost control over the vehicle on the downhill of Stavanidhi Ghat and crashed into the car.

The lorry dragged the car for about 500 to 600 feet before coming to a grinding halt at a roadside ditch. The Nippani Town police have registered a case.
