Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly B S Yeddyurappa on Friday dared the JD(S)-Congress coalition government to waive crop loans or face a statewide bandh on May 28.

Participating during the motion of vote of confidence sought by Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy in the Assembly, Yeddyurappa said, “You promised the electorate before the elections that crop loans availed from nationalised banks, cooperative institutions and the private sector will be waived. Do it within 24 hours or face the warth of the people”.

In his reply, Kumaraswamy said while he was firm on waiving crop loans he can take a decision only after consulting coalition partner the Congress.

Across the board crop loan waiver will cost the state exchequer Rs 53,000 crore.

Kumaraswamy said the government will not give BJP any chance to go to the streets. “I need not learn from you about farm loan waiver.. I will implement and show..”, he said.
