Yaduveer performs Vijayadashami rituals

Vajramusti Kalaga, a ritual by the erstwhile royal family as part of Vijayadashami, was held at Karikallu Thotti at the Mysuru Palace on Monday, in the presence of the members of the royal family and those of the Jatti community.

Vajramusti Kalaga is a bloody sport where two pairs — four wrestlers — from Jatti community fight with each other using ivory-crafted objects.

This year, the event, which was scheduled on October 19, had to be cancelled as two members of the royal family passed away on Vijayadashami and the rituals were postponed.

V Raghavendra Jatti of Benglauru and Purushottam Jatti of Chamarajanagar; Manjunath Jatti of Mysuru and Vidhyadhara Jatti of Channapatna in Ramanagar district took part in the sport. Raghavendra Jatti prevailed over Purushottam Jatti.

Soon after the event, member of the erstwhile royal family Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar performed puja at the palace kalyana mantap. Later, he went in a procession to the Banni tree on the palace premises. Yaduveer used a car for the procession, instead of the silver chariot, which is the norm.

Vijayayatre, ayudha puja and other rituals were performed.
