Dear Madam,

I am a final year student in Electronics and Communications Engineering. I would like to pursue my studies abroad, mainly in the US, in the field of Cyber Security/Computer Networking. I would like to get admitted into Carnegie Mellon University, Pennsylvania. Whether IELTS is accepted in the US universities instead of TOEFL? Also, provide information about the universities in Canada and Singapore.

NBS

Dear NBS,

To get into Carnegie Mellon or UPenn, you need a GPA of 9 and above on 10. Having said that, I don’t want you to give up on these universities. Focus on your GRE and aim for a score over 327. Universities all over the world accept the IELTS scores. Since you are applying for September 2019, try and carry out some kind of research in your subject and have your paper published. Write a strong statement of purpose and put together a very impressive resume highlighting all your awards, achievements, strengths etc. Other Universities known for Masters in Cyber Security and Computer Networking are: University of Southern California, Purdue University, Arizona State University, New York University, University of Washington, University of Maryland and Northeastern University. In Canada, University of New Brunswick, NYIT Vancouver, Concordia, Ontario Institute of Technology and York University offer the specialisations you are interested in. Singapore has Nanyang Technological University and the National University of Singapore that are well known for Computer Science and Engineering specialisations like cybersecurity and computer networks.

Dear Madam,

I have started my PUC integrated course in Science. My dream is to be an astronaut. Hence, I have decided to take up Aerospace engineering after PUC. Am I going in the right direction? If I am, then I plan to do it at Purdue University. Also, provide admission and scholarship details.

Syed

Dear Syed,

To pursue Aerospace engineering at Purdue, you need to get a very high percentage in your 2nd PUC. You also need to write the SAT reasoning test and Subject SAT in Physics and Math level 2 or 2C. You must also write the TOEFL ibt test. You must write a statement of purpose which is an essay explaining your career goals and the reason you want to study at Purdue. Applications are submitted online one year before the start date of the course. Most universities offer merit-based scholarships for international students based on the SAT scores.
