Apple launches Education Hub in Bengaluru, to boost skillset of supplier employees in India

Cupertino-based technology major Apple on Wednesday (February 4) announced the launch Education Hub, a first-of-its-kind programme in Bengaluru, India.

Apple Education Hub will be run by India's top institute, Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) to upskill supplier employees with digital literacy, Swift coding, robotics, automation technology, and smart manufacturing. It is slated to begin offering new courses in March, starting with Tata Electronics' manufacturing unit.

We’re thrilled to expand our technical training courses in India, giving thousands of employees the opportunity to learn valuable new skills and explore new paths for career growth,” said Sarah Chandler, Apple’s vice president of Environment and Supply Chain Innovation.

The new Apple Education Hub in Bengaluru offers courses and training programs to people across Apple’s supply chain in India.

These new courses are part of the initiative from Apple’s global $50 million Supplier Employee Development Fund. The company will also be expanding its suite of development courses available to supplier employees at more than 25 supplier sites in India later this year.

“This collaboration brings together Apple’s commitment to its supplier employees and Manipal’s experience in applied education to create meaningful opportunities for growth. Supplier communities sit at the heart of India’s manufacturing ecosystem, and investing in their skills is more important than ever,” said Lt. Gen. (Dr.) M.D. Venkatesh, vice chancellor at MAHE.

In 2024, Apple launched a robotics training program in India. It helps employees learn about new technologies used in manufacturing consumer electronics. Now, it plans to expand the educational sessions to more sites this year.

For employees with disabilities, Apple is offering similar vocational education training in its supplier partner Salcomp's unit in India.

So far, more than 18,000 differently-abled supplier employees globally to date, have benefited from the programme to improve their skillset.

As of now, Apple and its partners offer more than 75 courses for supplier employees in India. It plans to bring new emerging technological curricula to make them future-ready for better job opportunities.
