Apple plans to enter smart home segment in 2027: Report

Apple's smart home gadget will feature a 7-inch display, similar to iPad mini and sit on a motorised table-top.

Apple CEO Tim Cook earlier this month hosted a town hall meeting with employees and revealed the company is working on some amazing products. Some will arrive in the coming months, and others a little later, and it will be worth the wait.

Now, Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, citing a company insider, has claimed that Apple, which was speculated to enter the smart home segment this year, will come in 2027, as Cupertino marks the 20th anniversary of the first-generation iPhone launch.

Apple's smart home Internet of Things (IoT) gadget will feature a 7-inch display, similar to iPad mini and sit on a motorised table-top. It will be designed to stay in one place, like a kitchen counter or any table in the bedroom or a living room. But, it will be able to swivel around to look and answer to the face of the owner.

Apple is reportedly working hard to improve Siri, which will be the soul of the tabletop robot. Though the device will have a display, the user interface will be designed more for oral response, with far more accuracy and be able to perform actions more precisely than the current version of the digital assistant.

It will be able to chat with multiple people at a time and offer personalised suggestions to each person linked to the account on the device.

Apple also has a plan to bring a hybrid HomePod with a fixed display panel as well.

The company has several products, including a moving robot similar to Samsung Ballie and Amazon Astro; however, it is still early stages of development, and may come a little later this decade.

Apple is also working on home security gadgets with FaceID-based biometric sensors and infrared sensors.

Last year, we saw Apple getting a patent for a smart home bell with smart camera integration. Going by the latest reports, the company has a solid plan to expand its product portfolio in the near future.
