Apple Intelligence features now available in India with latest iOS, iPadOS 18.4, macOS 15.4 updates

Apple first offered a sneak peek at its generative Artificial Intelligence (gen AI)-based Apple Intelligence features in June 2024, with an official release in the iOS 18.1 update in October. Initially, it was limited to select regions, including America, Australia, and Europe. 

Now, with the latest iOS 18.4, iPasOS 18.4 and macOS Seqouia 15.4 updates, Apple Intelligence features are finally being rolled out to all eligible devices in India.

Apple Intelligence features support eight additional languages and two additional English locales, including English (India, Singapore), French (France, Canada), German (Germany), Italian (Italy), Japanese (Japan), Korean (South Korea), Portuguese (Brazil), Simplified Chinese, and Spanish (Spain, Latin America, US).

Apple Intelligence will work systemwide seamlessly, including native apps such as Siri digital assistant, Notes, iMessage, Mail, Photos app and even third-party apps installed across all devices.

It also bring smart Writing tools, Visual Intelligence, Image Playground, and more to the eligible iPhone, models.

With the Apple Intelligence, digital assistant Siri becomes more natural, flexible, and deeply integrated into the system experience. Also, it gets new animation with an elegant glowing light that wraps around the edge of the screen when active on iPhone, iPad, or CarPlay.

Apple iOS 18.4 bring Apple Intelligence features to iPhones in India.

On Mac, users can place Siri anywhere on their desktop to access it easily as they work. Users can type to Siri at any time on iPhone, iPad, and Mac, and can switch fluidly between text and voice as they use Siri to accelerate everyday tasks.

With richer language-understanding capabilities, communicating with Siri will be more natural like two people talking to each other.

Further, with extensive product knowledge, Siri can now answer thousands of questions about the features and settings of Apple products. Users can learn everything from how to take a screen recording, to how to easily share a Wi-Fi password.

Apple iOS 18.4 update brings support for 10 new system languages including Kannada.

Also, the iOS 18.4 brings support for 10 new system languages including Kannada, Bangla, Gujarati, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.

It also introduces eight new emoji including objects, plants, and a smiley face are now available in the emoji keyboard.

Further, iOS 18.4 brings all-new Apple Vision Pro app. It automatically gets installed for users with Apple Vision Pro. The app helps the user discover new content, spatial experiences, and quickly access information about the device.

Apple Intelligence will improve the user experience on the iPhones.

With respect to Photos app, it brings new filters to show or hide items that are not contained in an album, or synced from a Mac or PC, in the Library view in Photos

It allows users to reorder items in the Media Types and Utilities collections in Photos. It also brings filtering options in all collections, including the ability to sort by oldest or newest first in Photos.

It also offers option to sort albums by Date Modified in Photos. Users also get the ability to disable 'Recently Viewed' and 'Recently Shared' collections in Photos Settings.

If Use Face ID is enabled in Photos settings, the hidden photos are no longer included for import to a Mac or a PC.

Other notable new features and bug fixes include:

--Safari recent search suggestions help you quickly get back to previous search topics when starting a new query

--Setup Assistant streamlines steps parents need to take to create a Child Account for a kid in their family, and enables child-appropriate default settings if parents prefer to complete setting up a Child Account later

--Screen Time App Limits persist even after a child uninstalls and reinstalls an app

--App Store includes summaries for user reviews so you can get helpful insights from other users at a glance

--Pause and resume of an app download or update on App Store without losing progress

--New widgets for Podcasts including a Followed Shows widget to track your favorite shows and a Library widget to get to your most used sections, such as Latest Episodes, Saved, and Downloaded

--Ambient Music offers the ability to instantly play music from Control Center, giving access to a set of hand-curated playlists that offer soundtracks for daily life

--Apple Fitness+ Collections can now be added to Library

-- Matter-compatible robot vacuum cleaners can be controlled in the Home app as well as be added to scenes and automations

iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, iPhone SE (2nd generation or newer version).

Apple Intelligence features are available on iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16e, 16 Pro, 16 Pro Max, iPhone 15 Pro and the 15 Pro Max in India.

List of iPad variants eligible for iPadOS 18.4 update:

iPad Pro (M4), iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd gen and newer version), iPad Pro 11-inch (1st gen and newer models), iPad Air (M2), iPad Air (3rd gen and newer variant), iPad (7th gen and later), and the iPad mini (5th gen and newer version).

Apple Intelligence features are available on iPads with M1 and newer silicon chipsets.

Apple iOS 18.4 brings Apple Intelligence to iPhones in India.

Here's how to install the iOS/iPadOS 18 on iPhones and iPads:

Via OTA (Over-The-Air)

Prerequisite: Users' who want to install the update directly onto the device through OTA, make sure there is enough storage space and the device should have more than 50% battery life, before initiating the download of the new iOS/iPadOS update.

Step 1: Settings >> General >> Software update

Via manual installation through Apple iTunes

Prerequisite: Make sure to back up your iPhone/iPad with either iCloud or via iTunes before initiating the download procedure. Also, your PC must have the latest version of the iTunes app. If not, Go to About and then Check for Updates or visit iTunes.com.

Step 1: Launch iTunes on your Mac or PC.

Step 2: Insert your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch if it isn't already.

Step 3: Tap on the iPhone, iPad or iPod touch in the top left navigation.

Step 4: Tap on the Check for Update button in the first section that contains information about your device and alternately you can click Restore instead if you'd like to do a clean wipe with updated software.

Step 5: An update should be recognized, click on Download and Update in the popup menu and agree to the terms or conditions.

Step 6: Unlock your device with your passcode if prompted to continue with the upgrade.

List of Mac devices eligible for macOS Sequoia 15.4 update:

MacBook Air (2020 and newer models), MacBook Pro (2018 and newer models), Mac mini (2018 and newer models), Mac Pro (2019 and newer models), iMac Pro (2017 and newer models), Mac Studio (2022), and iMac (2019 and newer models).

It should be noted that the Apple Intelligence-powered features will be available only on Mac and iPad devices with M1 or newer versions of Apple's chip.

Here's how to install macOS Sequoia 15.4 on to your Mac device:

Step 1: From the Apple menu in the corner of your screen, choose System Settings. Click General in the sidebar, then click Software Update on the right.

Users can also use Spotlight in the menu bar to search for 'Software Update,' and then open it from the search results.

If your System is running on an OS that is two or three years, go to the Apple menu (Apple logo) >> System Preferences and then click Software Update.
