Vivo Y19 colour variants-- majestic green and titanium silver.

It features a 6.74-inch HD+ (1600 × 720p) LCD screen, supports 90Hz refresh rate, and offers up to 840 nits peak brightness.

It also boasts of MIL- STD-810H US-military-grade durability, IP64 dust-and-water splash resistant rating, side-mounted fingerprint sensor, triple slots (two for nano SIMs and a microSD card) and type-C port.

It comes in majestic green and titanium silver colours and will be available in three configurations-- 4GB RAM + 64GB storage, 4GB RAM + 128GB storage and 6GB RAM + 128GB storage-- for Rs 10,499, Rs 11,499 and 12,999, respectively.

Samsung announces ‘Solve For Tomorrow 2025’ contest in India

Samsung earlier this week launched the 2025 edition of the annual 'Solve for Tomorrow' contest in India.

The company has announced to offer Rs 1 crore worth of prizes and funding to the top four winning teams to support the incubation of their projects, along with hands-on prototyping, investor connects, and expert mentorship from Samsung leaders and IIT Delhi faculty.

“With Solve for Tomorrow, we are inspiring young innovators across every corner of India to dream big, tackle real-world challenges, and shape a smarter, more inclusive future through technology. This year, Solve for Tomorrow is going to be even bigger and more inclusive. We are reaching more cities, engaging students from more schools and colleges, and creating avenues for them to innovate, while applying the principles of design thinking. Solve for Tomorrow stands as a testament to our unwavering commitment to the Government of India’s pioneering Digital India initiative that empowers our youth to become architects of the future,” said JB Park, President & CEO, Samsung Southwest Asia.

Interested students aged 14-22 can submit their tech ideas as either individuals or groups at Samsung's official website till June 30, 2025. The participants are encouraged to create solutions across four key themes: AI for a Safer, Smarter, and Inclusive Bharat; Future of Health, Hygiene, and Well-being in India; Social change through Sports and Tech for Education and Better Futures; and Environmental Sustainability via Technology.

After the initial application phase, the top 100 teams will be chosen, with 25 teams selected from each of the themes. At this stage, participants will undergo online training led by thematic experts, followed by a video pitch round where 40 teams will be shortlisted – 10 teams from each theme.

The top 10 semi-finalist teams from each theme will then progress to an intensive mentorship program guided by Samsung’s industry veterans and subject matter experts. These teams will also participate in curated learning visits to Samsung’s state-of-the-art facilities, including the Samsung R&D Institute India in Bengaluru, Noida, and Delhi, as well as Samsung Design Delhi, offering them first-hand exposure to world-class innovation ecosystems.

This phase will culminate in an experiential, hands-on Prototyping Programme at Delhi’s state-of-the-art labs, in collaboration with ‘Solve for Tomorrow’ alumni. There will also be a Residential Bootcamp focused on refining ideas and preparing for the final pitch. The top 20 teams will be finalized after this phase, with five teams from each theme advancing to the grand finale. These top five teams from each theme will receive exclusive one-on-one mentoring sessions with Samsung experts. They will participate in a Prototyping Day, Pitch Presentation, Investor Meet, and Awards Ceremony, all held over the last three days of the competition.

The top 100 teams will receive certificates of achievement. The top 40 teams will receive Rs 8 lakh and the latest Samsung laptops for every member. The top 20 will receive Rs 20 lakh and the latest Samsung ZFlip smartphones for each member.

Xiaomi announces new AI-powered support centre

To further improve the user experience, Xiaomi has announced new Artificial Intelligence-powered customer experience centres across major cities in India.

The company will be offering customer support in 11 regional languages. The customer support will be operational 24x7 across chat and social media channels, strengthened by a robust three-level escalation matrix that ensures timely resolution and transparency.

For differently abled people, Xiaomi offers sign language support as well.

Bengaluru-based CognitiveLab wins 2024 Meta Llama Impact Grant

Meta earlier this week annonuced winners of Meta Llama Impact Grant 2024 awards. Bengaluru-based CognitiveLab has won the top honours.

CognitiveLab developed Nayana, a multilingual, multimodal, multitask language model that integrates advanced Llama technology to automate document and image processing across diverse languages, including several low-resource Indic languages.

The model includes robust text, vision, and speech capabilities and has already outperformed industry standards in OCR for 10 Indian languages.

“Open-source AI is a powerful tool to bridge digital divides, especially in a diverse country like India. With the 2024 Llama Impact Grant, we’re proud to support the Nayana project. Its work embodies the spirit of open innovation—making advanced AI usable for billions of people. Llama 4 was designed with accessibility, flexibility, and scalability at its core—and we’re excited to see how CognitiveLab will leverage this foundation to drive real-world impact,” said Shivnath Thukral, Vice President and Head of Public Policy, Meta India.

CognitiveLab has plans to use the grant to expand Nayana’s language support, increase the model’s multimodal integration, and develop optimised deployment tools for low-resource settings. The lab will also release new speech-text-image datasets, improve its Indic tokenizer, and set new benchmarks for multilingual AI systems through community collaboration.

“Our vision is to democratize AI in a way that’s inclusive and equitable. The Llama Impact Grant enables us to supercharge our efforts with Nayana - expanding language coverage, enhancing multimodal capabilities, and building high-quality training datasets for low-resource language communities. Open-source and Llama have empowered us to build world-class systems like Ambari and Nayana with minimal resources. This grant is a milestone in our journey to build impactful, indigenous AI solutions for the global south,” said Shashi Kumar, Founder, CognitiveLab.
