Google Play adds verified badges to genuine VPN apps

Virtual Private Network (VPN) apps are in great demand worldwide as they protect users' privacy by hiding their device's Internet Protocol (IP) address and encrypting their browsing details. This safeguards them from cyber threats and state-sponsored espionage attempts.

However, there is a rise in dishonest VPN apps that promise to offer protection but never deliver it.

To curb such applications, Google has announced adding verified badges to VPN apps that have transparent policies and genuinely care for subscribers' privacy and safety.

Already, some popular apps such as Nord, hide.me, Aloha and more have received the verified badge in the form of a shield icon with a ticker in the middle.

Google has urged other VPN service providers to comply with the Play Store guidelines to get the verified badge to their apps as soon as possible.

in addition to adhering to Play safety and security guidelines, the developers have to get Mobile Application Security Assessment (MASA) Level 2 validation for their apps.

Android phone users are also advised to always check for the verified badge on the VPN apps before installing them.
