<p>Meta has finally introduced the Passkeys security feature to the Facebook platform.</p><p>Several major social media and online platforms, such as Google Play Store, Apple App Store, X and even <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/technology/whatsapp-brings-support-for-passkeys-on-messenger-app-2729904">Facebook's sister platform WhatsApp</a>, have moved on from traditional password-based login procedure to Passkeys.</p><p>Passkeys is way better and safer alternative to passwords, as it gives users peace of mind about their account’s security. They don't have to write it down in a secret journal or store it in phone's digital notepad. Most importantly, unlike passwords, passkeys can't be stolen or guessed easily by cyber crooks to take over an online account.</p>.Arun Srinivas: Meta India's new managing director .<p>Once the user enrols in Passkey on the device, he/she can log in to the account by choosing the Passkey option instead of entering a traditional password.</p>. <p>The device will securely connect with an online account, in this case, Facebook, using the access key stored on the encrypted storage of the device to authenticate the identity.</p><p>The user can use biometric security features such as FaceID or TouchID (fingerprint sensor) or the device's passcode to log in to the Facebook platform.</p><p><strong>Here's how to set up Passkeys for Facebook on your phone:</strong></p>.<p><strong>Step 1:</strong> Open Facebook app >> Tap on Menu (hamburger icon) >> Search for Accounts Centre </p><p><strong>Step 2:</strong> At Accounts Centre >> Tap Password and security >> Select Passkeys and follow the on-screen instructions</p><p><strong>Note:</strong> You will be given the option to either use the fingerprint sensor or the Face Unlock </p><p><strong>Step 3:</strong> Once you select the preferred biometric security option, Facebook login credentials will integrate with on-device security.</p><p>For iPhone/iPad/Mac devices: Passkeys are linked with iCloud Keychain </p><p>For Android devices: Passkeys are linked to Google Password Manager</p><p>Going forward, users never have to remember passwords to log in to Facebook on any device.
