Meta finally introduces Passkeys feature to securely sign in to Facebook

With Passkeys, users can use biometric security features such as FaceID or TouchID (fingerprint sensor) or the device's passcode to log in to the Facebook platform.

Meta has finally introduced the Passkeys security feature to the Facebook platform.

Several major social media and online platforms, such as Google Play Store, Apple App Store, X and even Facebook's sister platform WhatsApp, have moved on from traditional password-based login procedure to Passkeys.

Passkeys is way better and safer alternative to passwords, as it gives users peace of mind about their account’s security. They don't have to write it down in a secret journal or store it in phone's digital notepad. Most importantly, unlike passwords, passkeys can't be stolen or guessed easily by cyber crooks to take over an online account.

Once the user enrols in Passkey on the device, he/she can log in to the account by choosing the Passkey option instead of entering a traditional password.

Meta brings Passkeys to Facebook

The device will securely connect with an online account, in this case, Facebook, using the access key stored on the encrypted storage of the device to authenticate the identity.

The user can use biometric security features such as FaceID or TouchID (fingerprint sensor) or the device's passcode to log in to the Facebook platform.

Here's how to set up Passkeys for Facebook on your phone:

How to setup Passkeys on Facebook.

Step 1: Open Facebook app >> Tap on Menu (hamburger icon) >> Search for Accounts Centre

Step 2: At Accounts Centre >> Tap Password and security >> Select Passkeys and follow the on-screen instructions

Note: You will be given the option to either use the fingerprint sensor or the Face Unlock

Step 3: Once you select the preferred biometric security option, Facebook login credentials will integrate with on-device security.

For iPhone/iPad/Mac devices: Passkeys are linked with iCloud Keychain

For Android devices: Passkeys are linked to Google Password Manager

Going forward, users never have to remember passwords to log in to Facebook on any device. The app automatically opens with just fingerprint ID/ Face ID or passcode used to unlock your device.
