Standalone Meta AI app debuts on Apple App Store, Google Play

The company has also confirmed that it will integrate the Meta AI app with the Meta View companion app for Ray-Ban Meta glasses.

Since 2023, Meta in phases, has integrated the generative Artificial Intelligence (gen AI) feature in its social media platforms and messenger apps-- WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook and Messenger.

Now, the Mark Zuckerberg-owned company has launched the standalone Meta AI app on the Apple App Store (for iPhone and iPad) and Google Play Store (for Android phones and tablets).

The Meta AI is powered by the company's latest generation AI model, Llama 4. It can understand complex questions and converse with users like two people speaking to each other.

It should be noted that Meta AI is running a beta full-duplex speech technology, which can deliver a natural voice experience trained on conversational dialogue. Since it is a test version, there will be some inconsistencies in responding to the queries. The company says that it will get better over time. Full-duplex tech mode can be turned on and off.

Initially, the Voice Conversations option, including the full duplex demo, is available in the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. It is expected to be expanded to more regions in the coming months.

Also, it is capable of churning out image generation and help edit a photo. It can be done through a voice or text conversation with the Meta AI assistant.

Meta AI also features a Discover feed. This tab offers the option to share and explore how others are using AI. Users will get tips on how to get the best out of the Meta AI app. Users will be able to see the best prompts people are sharing or remix them to make them their own prompts. It also offers the option to block the Meta AI app from taking the user's prompt to share it with others to help them how to use the Meta AI app.

Further, the company has confirmed that it will integrate the Meta AI app with the Meta View companion app for Ray-Ban Meta glasses.

Meta AI is competing with OpenAI's ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Apple's Apple Intelligence, Anthropic's Claude AI and Perplexity founded by Aravind Srinivas, Denis Yarats, Johnny Ho, and Andy Konwinski.

In a related development, Meta has announced that it will soon launch the second generation of Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses in India.
