Expressing satisfaction about the pace of work going on to develop the region's first TenderSURE road from Arts Circle College Cross to Tolanakere via Shirur Park in the CIty, MLA Jagadish Shettar stated that the road would be ready by December or January.

Inspecting the TederSURE road development works at Shirur Park area here on Wednesday, he stated that encroachment on the road area are cleared, ducts are developed, utility lines are laid underground, and only shifting of electric line is pending.

Hubballi Electricity Supply Company (Hescom) officials are reluctant to shift overhead lines in the median area to underground ducts, due to the cost factor. This issue would be resolved through a meeting.

Cement concrete (CC) road is being developed, utility lines are shifted, and ducts are also arranged. This unique facility would be ready by December or January, he said.

Model road

The road is being redesigned and upgraded as per the TenderSURE (Specifications for Urban Roads Execution) street design guidelines. The Jana Urban Space consultancy has given the design support for this project, which is being executed by the Public Works Department (PWD). For this Rs 35 crore project, Hubballi-Dharwad BRTS Company Limited has also contributed Rs eight crore. The National Asphalt Products Construction (NAPC) company is the contractor, and the works began in January, on this 2.19 km stretch.

The TenderSURE road will have two separate lanes for vehicles with 7-metre width each, having a one metre wide central median with double arm streetlight poles. On both sides, the road will have 1.4-metre wide continuous footpath, and a one-metre wide cycle track also.

All utilities including water pipelines, electricity lines, telephone cables, underground drainage, and the stormwater line would be underground. The duct line will have inspection chambers at regular distances so that repair works can be taken up without damaging the road infrastructure. This will have seven cross ducts also.

The project also includes the development of junctions, bus bays, pedestrian crossings, and auto bays. Ramps and bollards at intersections, landscape strips, and lane separators are also included in the design.

CRF roads

Inspecting the CERF road being developed at Siddheshwar Park and Lingaraj Nagar area, Shettar instructed the officials to clear encroachments, to develop 80-free wide road. Interior roads were also damaged due to heavy vehicle movement after traffic diversion due to road work, and those roads should also be repaired, Shettar said.

Development of CRF road stretch from Unkal Cross to Shirur Park would also be started soon. Some encroachments on this road have to be cleared by the HDMC officials, and slum dwellers at Hosur should be rehabilitated. The road behind Kims would also be developed under the CRF soon, Shettar said.

Good quality CRF roads are being developed, but encroachments and utility line are hindering the works. The State Government has not yet called tenders for Rs 70 crore Unkal-Gadag Road road and Rs 25 crore Neeligin Road development, he lamented.

HDMC Commissioner C W Shakeel Ahmed, Corporation Mahesh Burli, Umeshgouda Kaujageri, and others were present.
