Unscientific circulars by bureaucrats irks MLC

MLC S L Bhojegowda expressed dissatisfaction over unscientific circulars dispatched by the bureaucrats.

Speaking at an educational convention and award ceremony organized by the Karnataka State High School Teachers' Association jointly with District High School Headmasters' Association, the MLC said that the bureaucrats should have the courtesy to at least consulting the people’s representatives and various teachers' associations before issuing the circulars.

He said that he would not hesitate to even approach court if he has issues to fulfil the legitimate demands made by the teachers.

MLC Ayanur Manjuntah said there should be protection for teachers similar to that of doctors. This helps the teachers at least to save themselves from the atrocities against them.

He lamented that there is no provision of the pension for the teachers these days. There are no maternity facilities for the women teachers, he rued.

He said it makes no sense for the MLAs and MLCs to avail the benefits of pension if the teachers are only deprived of the benefits.

He assured the teachers that he would try to solve the issues bothering the teachers.

MLA Raghupathi Bhat said that the achievements award for the teachers ‘Sadhaka Prashasthi’ has been started again which was stopped in the last five years.

He urged the teachers to maintain the excellence and retain the first position in SSLC examination results in the coming years.

State High School Associate Teachers' Association President H K Manjunath charged that teachers are overburdened with extra work and the government expects the teachers to perform well.

If the situation continues, the teachers should take up drastic steps and commit suicide, he said.

The association's general sectary M N Canadregowda said that the withholding of the salary is not possible and the chief minister has assured to sort out the issue.

The demands put forth by the teachers on the occasion included English medium in government schools to prevent shutting down of the schools, opening of BEO offices in Kaup and Hebri, cancellation of NPS, consideration of high school teachers for promotion and posts of lecturers for PG candidates in PU colleges.
