Water crisis before the onset of summer

Kadur, a drought-hit taluk, is already reeling under a water crisis.

Water is supplied to Gollarahatti, Mathighatta and Hulikere Gollarahatti villages in Jiganehalli Gram Panchayat limits through tankers.

As many as 28 villages are facing acute shortage of water according to official records.

Water is purchased from private individuals and distributed among Kanchugallu and Madalu villages. As many as 11 tankers supply water in the villages.

The 28 villages that are facing water crisis are V Siddarahalli, Asandi, Karehalli, Gandhinagara layout, M Gollarahatti, Anegeri, Jiganehalli, Alghatta, Gollarahatti, Hampapura, Chatnahalli Thotadamane, T B Kavalu, Vaderahalli, Yagati, Chandrashekarapura, Banooru, Gubbihalli, Gubbehalli tanda, Hulikere, Kethumaranahalli, Madalu, Kanchkallu, Mallappanahalli, S G Koppalu, Pattanagere and Yallambalase Gate.

The state government has released Rs 50 lakh after the taluk was declared as drought-hit.

An action plan for drinking water projects has been prepared and submitted to the DC for approval. Though Shuddha drinking water units have been set up in different parts of the taluk, it is not yet functional as the units do not have a source of water to supply from.

The water crisis in the taluk will be reduced once the multi-village drinking water project is completed, said the villagers.

Taluk panchayat EO Dr Devaraja Naik said, “Precautionary measures have been taken to ensure that there is no water crisis in the taluk.”
