Brazilian journalist accidentally steps on girl's corpse while reporting her disappearance

Firefighter and divers carried out a search for the girl, Raissa on the morning of June 30 and fished out her body from the same location where Lenildo had been reporting from in the river.

A Brazilian journalist, identified as Lenildo Frazao accidentally stepped on the corpse of a 13-year-old girl while reporting about her disappearance.

According to a report by The Sun, Lenildo was standing in the Mearim River in Bacabal, northeastern Brazil, where the 13-year-old was last seen.

The girl, identified as Raissa had gone missing while swimming with her friends in the river.

Lenildo entered the water while reporting to demonstrate the depth and flow of the river when moments later, he jumped away abruptly saying that something brushed against him underwater.

According to the publication's report, wading his way towards shallow water, he looked back and was heard saying, "I think there’s something down here at the bottom of the water. No, I'm not going, I'm scared. It looked like an arm - could it be her? But it might be a fish, too. I don't know."

The female victim had drowned while swimming with her friends in the river.

According to the The Sun, a post-mortem has revealed that Raissa died of accidental drowning and there were no signs of physical trauma.

Though the incident is from June 30, the video went viral recently.

Raissa was laid to rest on the evening of June 30 and her school declared a mourning for three in her honour after her body was found.
