. A group of around 200 farmers will protest against the Centre's three farm laws in front of Parliament every day during the monsoon session, the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) announced on Sunday.

The umbrella body of over 40 farmer unions said at a press conference that two days before the session begins, a "chetavani patra" (warning letter) will be given to all the opposition MPs to protest the laws inside the House.

The ruling party in West Bengal also accused the BJP of working hard to "add to the people's woes" as the fuel prices hit a "historic high".

. Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday sought the intervention of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha against the alleged forcible eviction of her party leaders, including former legislators, from their government quarters.

Mehbooba alleged that the administration is selectively targeting PDP leaders and made them vacate their official residences in Srinagar without providing any alternate accommodation.

. Miscreants attacked two TMC activists and opened fire in the air outside one of the ruling party's offices in the city's northern outskirts, triggering panic in the area, a police officer said on Sunday.

Six persons have been arrested so far in connection with the incident, he said.

. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi inaugurated a large naval base on Saturday 135 km from the border with Libya, flanked by close ally Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan and Libya's unity president.

Egypt says the July 3 base will help it protect strategic and economic interests as well as helping guard against irregular migration as it boosts its naval presence on the Mediterranean and the Red Sea.

. The West Bengal government has rejected as "bogus" almost 50 per cent of the applications that were filed seeking compensation for the damage caused by cyclone Yaas, following spot verification by district authorities, a senior official said on Sunday.

The government had last month received at least 3,81,774 applications at the camps set up under its Duare Tran (relief at doorstep) programme, he said.

. Britain has announced it will seek harsher sentences for migrants caught entering the country without permission amid a record-breaking surge in arrivals over the English Channel.

The stricter prison sentences for both migrants and people smugglers come as part of Home Secretary Priti Patel's plans to overhaul asylum rules in a bid to prevent what her department has characterised as "asylum shopping".

The legislation announced Saturday makes it a criminal offence to arrive in the UK without permission, with a maximum sentence for those entering the country unlawfully increasing from six months to four years.

. India's total coal production registered a marginal decline of 2.02 per cent to 716.084 million tonnes during the last fiscal year.

. Fuel prices were hiked for a third time this month on Sunday, with petrol in the national capital up by 35 paise and diesel seeing a rise of 18 paise a litre each, according to the latest notification by Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL).

. The national capital on Sunday recorded a minimum temperature of 25.6 degrees Celsius, three notches below normal, the India Meteorological Department said.
