S.Subramaniam, the former deputy president of the Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC), the largest party of the Indian community, underwent a 13-hour brain surgery on Saturday, reports here said.
The condition of the 67-year-old MIC leader is "stable", but remains unconscious after
undergoing brain surgery.
"His condition is stable and his family members are at the hospital to keep tabs on his progress," local newspapers quoted a friend of his as saying last night.
According to doctors, it was not uncommon for a patient to remain unconscious more than 24 hours after a long surgery.
Subramaniam had complained of feeling unwell on Friday night.
Samy Vellu, the former MIC president and long-time political rival, wished him speedy recovery.
"I hope he gets well soon. We have known each other for 40 years and never quarrelled, although we have had our political differences," he said.
