Gang asks house owners for water; robs them

The Bharathinagar police arrested a five-member gang, who approach houses in the guise of asking for drinking water and force their way in by brandishing knives.

The police recovered Rs 4 lakh worth of valuables from Farooqh (24), Nadeem Ahmed (21) and Javad Ali (21), who reside in Shivajinagar; Nadeem Khan (22) from Lingarajpuram; and Ratan (20), who lives in Bharathinagar.

The recovered items include expensive gold watches, cameras and gold.

The police also seized daggers and knives by the suspects in robbing houses.

Robbery at knifepoint

The police said the suspects forced their way into the house of Jonathan Thomas in HBR Layout on June 25 and robbed valuables at knifepoint.

They barged in under the usual pretext of asking for water to drink.

Following the complaint, the Bharathinagar police identified and arrested them using local intelligence network.

The suspects had been selling the stolen items and spending the money.
