A day after Congress president Rahul Gandhi described the Narendra Modi government as a failure, the BJP on Sunday hit back at him calling him a "failed dynast" under whom Congress lost a series of elections.

"Dear Rahul Gandhi, we do not know how many times irony dies when a failed dynast like you gives marks to a performing government. Here is a compilation of all the glories you have brought to your party," the BJP tweeted with a visual recording of the poll losses of the Congress since Gandhi was elevated as party vice president in 2013 and as president last December.

The BJP said the Congress has lost 24 elections after Gandhi became the vice president.

The BJP's response came after Gandhi tweeted a "report card" on the completion of four years of Modi government on Saturday, giving 'F' in agriculture, foreign policy, fuel prices and job creation and 'A+' in slogan creation and self promotion.

Gandhi tweeted, "4 Yr Report Card Agriculture: F, Foreign Policy: F, Fuel Prices: F, Job Creation: F, Slogan Creation: A+, Self Promotion: A+, Yoga: B- Remarks: Master communicator; struggles with complex issues; short attention span."

Speaking at a public rally after inaugurating the Rs 11,000 crore Eastern Peripheral Expressway in Uttar Pradesh's Baghpat on Sunday, Modi said, "people who are used to worshipping one family cannot worship democracy...after losing elections, they are rattled. I had not thought that in opposing Modi, they would start opposing the country."

"On that side, are people for whom their family is the country. For me, my country is my family," he said.
