Union home minister and former BJP president Amit Shah on Friday said that the saffron party was ready to 'fight' the Congress wherever the latter wanted even as he sought to reject the opposition's charge, following disruption of Parliament, that democracy was in 'danger' asserting that it was the 'dynasty' (Gandhi family), which was in 'danger' and not democracy.

Addressing public meetings at Kaushambi and Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh, Shah blamed the Congress for disrupting the Parliament. ''Congress did not allow the Parliament to function over Rahul Gandhi's disqualification from Lok Sabha.....the people of the country will never forgive Rahul Gandhi for this,'' the minister said.

In his address, Shah kept targeting Rahul and also accused the latter of ''defaming India on foreign soil'', apparently referring to the former Congress president's comments on Indian democracy at Cambridge University last month.

He said that it was for the first time the session of the Parliament had ended without a discussion on the budget. ''Challenge the verdict (conviction) in the higher court...you (Rahul) punished the Parliament for it,'' he added.

''The lotus (BJP's election symbol) has blossomed whenever the opposition leaders abused Narendra Modi...the people have punished those who abused Moddiji....Rahul Gandhi lost his LS membership owing to a court order but he is blaming the centre for the same,'' Shah added.

The BJP leader also targeted the Samajwadi Party (SP) and BSP for what he alleged ''creating obstacles in the way of the Ram Temple''We paved the way for the construction of the Ram Temple at Ayodhya and very soon we will be able to have darshan of Ramlala in his own temple,'' Shah said.

Praising UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath, the Union Minister exuded confidence that BJP would again form government at the centre under the leadership of Narendra Modi in 2024.

Shah also, during his visit to Kaushambi and Azamgarh, launched several developmental schemes and took part in other events also.

According to the sources the district administration did not allow the SP MLA Sirathu assembly seat in Kaushambi Pallavi Patel to take part in the event and she was allegedly put under house arrest to prevent her from going there as the police apprehended that she might hold a protest.
