In an incident of mob attack caught on tape in the national capital, 'Kanwars' broke and overturned a car after it allegedly brushed past one of them, on Tuesday.

According to the police, the car, which was driven by a woman was attacked after a heated argument ensued around 5.30 pm when the car reportedly brushed past the pilgrims. The car was later thrashed and overturned by the mob. However, the occupants of the car, which included the woman and her male friend were not harmed, added police.

Vijay Kumar, West Delhi Police DCP told reporters that the incident occurred when one of the occupants of the car slapped a Kanwar pilgrim. He also added that though the police arrived at the spot in 10 minutes, the Kanwars had fled by then. A case is registered.

However, the Uttar Pradesh police arranged a 'special welcome' for the pilgrims. In a video that surfaced on Twitter, Meerut ADG Prashant Kumar and Commissioner Chandra Prakash Tripathi are seen dropping flowers from a helicopter on to the pilgrims moving on the road.

The Kanwar (Kawad) Yatra is a pilgrimage to Haridwar, Gomukh and Gangotri and Sultanganj to gather the holy waters of the Ganges River.

Earlier, CM Yogi Adityanath while conducting an aerial inspection of the security arrangements of Kanwar Yatra was seen waving at the people walking on the road.
