This week the Uttar Pradesh government changed its Historic city-Allahabad's name to Prayagraj. Though the name-change politics have always had its reactions, this particular move attracted a wave of memes from Twitterati.

The #AajSeTumharaNaam trend on Twitter came up with memes of UP's CM Yogi Adityanath re-christening anything 'foreign' to give it a 'Desi' twist.

Here is a glimpse of why the UP government decided to change the city's name, as reported by the Indian Express

An official statement released by the government said, “The board researched documents and found that the there were 14 Prayags in the country but only the one here, also known as King of all Prayags (hence, Prayagraj) was changed to Allahabad.”

“There was a delusion that the place was always called Allahabad and so the revenue board suggested that in order to correct this delusion, it would be reasonably legal to change the name to the original name,” the statement said.
