Protest against Prakash Rai; four detained in Mangaluru

The police detained four persons who on Saturday had been trying to enter the premises of Shanti Kirana, near Nanthoor, where Jana Nudi, a two-day literary meet. is being organised.

The programme is being organised by Abhimata.

Members of the Hindu Jagarana Vedike attempted to enter the hall where actor Prakash Rai was chief guest for the programme.

The police detained Sharath, Subhash, Sunil and Praveen. They are residents of Padavinangady, said police sources.

It is said that the detained had come to protest against Prakash Rai. The police detained the four till evening at Mangaluru East Police station and later released them, after issuing a warning of not to engage in such activities in the future, said the police.

The police had strengthened security at the Jana Nudi venue. DCPs Hanumantharaya and Uma Prashanth were at the spot monitoring the security measures, till Actor Prakash Rai left the venue.

Speaking at the convention, Prakash Rai said “I heard a few had come for a ‘japa’ against me. Had I known this before, I would have asked the police to allow them inside the hall, so that I could have had an interaction with them.”
