No guards at Chamundi Hill, make it a thoroughfare

The proposal to ban entry of private vehicles from 10 pm to 5 am atop the Chamundi Hill has not been implemented even though months have passed after erecting the security gates at its foot to avoid illegal activities.

To put an end to the illegal activities which are hurting the sanctity of the Chamundi Hill, KR Police station officials recommended erection of security gates to the temple officials, citing law and order problems.

Even though the temple management has erected the security gates by spending approximately Rs 14 lakh to restrict the entry of private vehicles, except for the residents of Chamundi Hill village and during emergency situations from 10 pm to 5 pm, the Police department has not provided any staff for security. he gates, along with the posts, were erected near the arch, which leads to the Chamundi Hill. Besides, two more gates at Tavarekatte junction and Uttanahalli side of the road have been erected.

The temple management is ready to depute security personnel, but they are waiting for the Police department to
deploy policemen near the posts.

Speaking to DH, Executive Officer of the Chamundi Temple K M Prasad said, the temple management has sent a proposal to the Police department to provide personnel for security at the gates.

“The temple management is ready to depute security personnel, but they will not have the authority to prevent the entry of vehicles,” he said.

Inspector of KR Police Station said, the Police department has not received any order from the government in this regard.
