Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Ramesh Kumar and Pro-tem Chairman of the Legislative Council Basavaraj Horatti said that all out efforts will be made to hold the ten-day winter session and make it pro-people. The session is slated to begin from December 10.

They spoke to reporters, on Monday, after a meeting with senior officers of various departments, from different districts, to review the preparations for the winter session at Suvarna Vidhana Soudha in Belagavi.

'Come prepared'

"We expect legislators to come prepared for the session. We can support them by providing extra time if legislators involve in healthy discussions," Ramesh Kumar said.

Agenda

"The legislature advisory committee will decide on the agenda for discussions. Depending on the topics raised by members, under different rules, issues will be discussed on priority. But, there will be no compromise in our commitment to ensure a session which is qualitative and pro-people," he added.

"It has come to our notice that there were flaws in food quality and accommodation during previous session. We have advised officers to see to it that such lapses are not repeated," they added.

Legislature house

"The government has to decide on the construction of a legislature house. It is a necessity and will be good if constructed. But, it does not fall in our purview," the Speaker said.

Low attendance

When asked about the powers vested in the Speaker in ensuring complete attendance; Ramesh Kumar said: "I cannot force legislators to come to the session. It is their responsibility. I have to act in accordance with the dignity of the chair".

To another query over rumors that Municipal Administration Minister Ramesh Jarkiholi, would resign, Ramesh Kumar said that he had not received any resignation letter from the minister.
