100 volunteers take up cleanliness drive

The staff of various departments and members of Self Help Groups participated in a cleanliness drive organised by Koove Gram Panchayat on Friday.

As a part of the drive, more than 100 volunteers cleared plastic wastes and other garbage dumped beside the State Highway. Taluk panchayat President K C Rathan, member Pramila, GP President Manjula too participated enthusiastically in the drive.

The volunteers carried out the drive on a five kilometre stretch from Magundi bridge till Gabgal. Gram Panchayat member Rajendra offered cool drinks to the volunteers.

Speaking on the occasion, Rathan called upon the residents to join hands with the authorities in implementing the plastic ban. Instead of plastic carry bags, the residents should use cloth bags. All the Gram Panchayats will take up cleanliness drive in the taluk, he said.

Schoolchildren, anganwadi and Asha workers too took part in the drive.
