4 monkeys found dead in Udupi

Four monkeys were found dead at Shiralu, Belmannu in Karkala, Hiliyana in Udupi and Varthooru in Kundapur on Wednesday.

The viscera of two monkeys have been sent to the laboratory in Shivamogga for testing, said Nodal Officer Dr Prashanth Bhat. A team from Manipal Centre for Virus Research (MCVR), Manipal, carried out surveillances at Kavradi and Hosangadi. The department of Health and Family Welfare has been creating awareness on Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD) in the villages situated on the periphery of the forest.

A team of doctors from WHO had visited the KMC Hospital in Manipal on Wednesday and enquired about the patients being treated for KFD.

Later, they collected informtion from doctors treating the patients. The team also met MAHE vice chancellor and hospital superintendent and collected information on the status of KFD in Udupi district and measures taken to check the spread of the disease.
