Environmentalist Kalkuli Vittala Hegde has warned of intensifying the protest if the Union government implements the recommendations of Kasturirangan report. The implementation of report will inconvenience the people of Malnad, he said.

At an Janajagruthi Samavesha organised against the Kasturirangan report, organised by Kasturirangan Varadi Virodhi Malenadu Ulisi Vedike, Rotary Club Sahyadri Coffee Growers’ Association and others on Tuesday, he said Kasturirangan’s recommendations are nothing but revised version of Madhav Gadgil report submitted in 2011. If the recommendations are implemented then it will affect 22 villages in Koppa taluk alone.

The recommendations have restricted the use of chemical fertilisers, insecticides for farming in buffer zone coming 10 kilometre radius of ecolocally sensitive areas. Further, they have also restricted on farming on 30% of the slope areas, he said.

He accused the pseudo environmentalists of impressing upon the government to implement Kasturirangan recommendations. The government should not implement the recommendations he urged.

Zilla Panchayat former president H M Sathish said there is a need to create awareness on the recommendations of the Kasturirangan report.
