Collecting donation and hearts

After the debacle of Meghave Meghave, Nagendra Prasad tries to recreate the 80s onscreen with Vinayaka Geleyara Balaga, narrating real incidents with a cinematic twist.

Then comes the Ganesha festival and it’s time for the gang to do something. They hit upon community celebration and go door to door, collecting ‘chanda’ (donation). They are popular and soon catch the eye of a local don, who nurses political ambition. Amidst all this Viji finds time to romance the heroine.

Vinayaka Geleyara Balaga unfolds the enduring trend of collecting ‘chanda’ which has transformed into a social evil these days. It is interesting to note the small details of the life in those days when satellite revolution was unheard of, and Infy was still in its infancy. The number plates and serpentine queues for kerosene brush the dust off memories.

Giving a good account of themselves are Harikrishna (music) and Danny and Maada (action). The songs are shot well. Except for Vijayaraghavendra and Meghna no other character stands out. 

Vinayaka Geleyara Balaga is an absolute mass entertainer for the ones with a liking for spending time and money for everything except devotion at the time of festivals.
